SAR Request advice

Hi should a SAR request be signed and are there any issues with this please?
Also, I have been advised when requesting a SAR that my details held are either incorrect or out of date, so I am being asked to provide proof of identify, passport, driving license etc & signature !
Any advice would be very much appreciated.

There is no specific requirement to sign a subject access request, but why wouldn`t you ?

Can you be asked for ID?

Yes. The company needs to be satisfied that they know the identity of the requester (or the person the request is made on behalf of). If they are unsure, they can ask for information to verify an individual’s identity.

The timescale for responding to a SAR does not begin until they have received the requested information.

However, you should request ID documents promptly.

  • Thank you for replying.  To be honest I do not trust this organisation at all and have had to complain three times regarding mistakes they make.. all of these were upheld.  They absolutely know who I am as I have had contact with them regularly in the past 4 months due to these complaints etc and they ask me to go through security every time..!
I honestly believe there are being obstructive.

You can make a complaint to the ICO if you feel they are being unreasonable
  • Thank you, I might just do that based on the current level of contact we have been having..
